PIME VANI, 2020-21
Editor’s
desk…………………….
Greetings
and best wishes form PIME VIDYA BHAVAN
COMMUNITY PUNE, to all the readers. Dear friends, for this issue we have
taken theme “LET’S JOUNEY TOGETHER IN
LOVE AND CARE (PANDEMIC).” We are all in the world where everyone is facing
the disease called Corona Virus.
The
whole world is filled with Love and Care in this time of Pandemic. Everyone is
aware about the Covid-19. Yes, there were moments we just prayed for the people
who were affected by Corona viruses but we did not take any concrete steps for
them. It is in this time many have breathed their last. It did not give much
thought into our hearts as it began in 2019. It is we, who have to take care of
our brothers and sisters, so let us clean our hands all times and create
distance for our sake and for the others so, we can prevent the Corona Viruses
form spreading it and by wearing masks.
At
first I express my heartfelt gratitude to God for his showers of blessings in
bringing this issue. I sincerely thank Fr. John Berchman (Rector) for his
constant support and guidance by encouraging us with his ideas in selecting the
theme for this issue and also helping us to edit the issues. I am thankful to
Fr. Vaktinath (Spiritual Director) for his support and words of encouragement.
My heartfelt thanks to all those who, responded positively to our invitation
with their wonderful articles, Poems and experiences. I thank the PIME VANI
Group members for collaborating and helping to come up this issue. I hope all
the readers would find meaning and enjoy reading. Thank you.
Wishing
you a fruitful reading……………..

How can we journey
together with love and care?
These two years, we have
tasted a different and a new experience. And we are addressed
to a lot of challenges in our lives. On one hand we learnt many things due
to Corona Virus, on other hand Pandemic also caused a lot of drastic things in
our lives and society, we cannot meet each other, we cannot go to schools,
colleges, a place of worship, place of entertainments and there is a lot of
disturbance in our society. Apart from that pandemic also gives us chance to
prove our humanity, unity and safeguard our own societies and countries. There
are a lot of precautionary steps to prevent the attack of the virus. But how do
we follow? We should keep our heart and soul to think about our fellow
citizens or brethren rather than our own comfortable and luxurious structures.
As Jesus taught us to love one another but how do we
express our love towards others? We know that love and care go hand in hand,
because if you love someone you also care for them. If you care for someone
since you love them. We cannot part or separate them. If everyone follows the
precautionary steps, we could have prevented the novel corona virus spreading
everywhere in the world.
I would like to share my own experience. I was
in Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu when Corona Virus was furious in
India, our formators instructed some of the precautionary steps to prevent
Corona virus in our seminary. For several month we did not go out, through
which we avoided social contact. We followed hygienic measures by washing
our hands often and keeping our surroundings neat and tide. When we went
outside, we made sure that wearing mask was mandatory. Every day we used to
consume Nilavembu kashaya water decoction or herbal water to
boost up our immunity and support overall body health. As per my knowledge
no one was found Covid-19 positive so far. By following these simple
precautionary steps, we care for others those who are with us. In this way we
show our love for them. Therefore, we should not fear to love and care
.However, our fear and selfish motives led us afar from our own people like parents, relatives, friends and all dear and near ones. We might also think this virus season is the period of test to love and care for own fellow brethren. St. Teresa of little flowers became the patroness of missions without going to the mission land but she was working pretty things in her community with heart and soul. Likewise, we need not become great scientists to prevent the virus from our society but by following the simple precautionary steps at home which are given by our elders and government. That shows our love and care for others.
If everyone follows it, we could have prevented virus in spreading everywhere, instead of blaming God. It is our human tendency to blame someone when things are not in good condition. We need to be responsible with the will of God. Hence, let us journey together with care and love.
JOURNEY FROM TRICHY TO PUNE VIA VIJAYAWADA
The journey
how I undertook during the time of pandemic with my friends. This journey is
one of the learning and memorable experience in my life. The precautions we
have taken before our journey and how we reached the destination. I believed
that when we were in difficulties, God will not abandon us, he will be with us always in our journeys. I would
like to share my own experience, how I reached Pune. It was the time of
lockdown, we were three of us, after finishing our course in Trichy, we were promoted
to pune seminary to engage in further studies. We were stuck in Trichy for 7 months attending online classes. People say, the train journey during pandemic
is risky and this contagious virus transmits from one person to another. The people were travelling by taking
preventive steps in order to survive their families by working in different
cities. In the time of lockdown, the government organized covid special trains,
in railway stations there was a scrutiny and police were announcing, the people
must wear masks and must carry their personal sanitizers and it is mandatory to
maintain social distance. The rector of pune booked tickets from Trichy to Chennai,
Chennai egmore to Vijayawada and to pune. Tickets from Vijayawada to pune were in
waiting list. Before, we started our journey, we took masks, personal
sanitizers, hand gloves and what we needed for the journey. By seeking the
blessings from God, we started from seminary to Trichy railway station and
waited for the train. We reached Chennai egmore. With lot of struggles we came
outside and took auto for the next train in Chennai central. When we entered the
station, there was checking by police officers and the station masters. They
were allowing the passengers, whose tickets were confirmed. We got our seats.
In the course of our journey, they maintained social distancing. We reached Vijayawada
railway station and waited for next train. Before one hour, a message came to
my mobile, that tickets were not confirmed. When we reached Vijayawada, it was
midnight. Police men were not allowing us to get into the train to Pune.
We stayed
in vijawada railway station and made a phone call to rector. He suggested us to
go to eluru and stay for few more days. Later, he told, he will book tickets.
We got the bus and reached eluru and stayed in eluru seminary for 4 days.
Later, I got a message from father, that tickets were confirmed. He booked from
Hyderabad to Pune. We booked private travels from Eluru to Hyderabad. That
night, we started our journey from Eluru to
Hyderabad, Next day morning we reached hyd and got fresh up in bus stand and
went to Hyderabad railway station. So we waited in the railway station. We saw
numerous passengers who were waiting patiently in their respective platforms to
get into the train. They were unconcerned about the pandemic and journeyed to
reach their destinations. We had a good conversation with people and they helped
us to know our platform and police advised us to take necessary preventive
steps in the train and how to communicate with fellow passengers. We got seats,
the passengers besides us introduced and shared their experiences, and they
were good people. Same night at 11’o clock, we reached Pune. Like this I
reached my destination, I thank God for these people who journeyed with me. We
managed by taking necessary preventive steps, maintaining social distance and
by following the instructions of police men. We reached our destination safe
and care.
This above said experience is a proof that everything
is possible for God, the one who believes in Him, and respects each other by
following the rules and regulations, can be safe and achieve what is desired.

Inserting ourselves in
the socio-cultural environment
St.
Pope John Paul II says “Through
socio-cultural development the church makes the Gospel incarnate in different
cultures and at the same time introduces people, together with their cultures
into her own community” Redemptories Missio 52
The
message of the New Testament entails missionary activity. Several passages from
the Gospels refer to the ‘Great Commission’ of the Apostles by Jesus. The
church of Jesus has a mandate to take the salvific message of the Gospel to the
ends of the earth and to make Disciples of Christ in every nation. Evangelization
never takes place in abstract situation but is always addressed to concrete
people who face the real challenges in their lives. This was witnessed in the social
life of the first community of Jesus’s followers in Jerusalem who were deeply
influenced by the Gospel and the mission of Christ. So the task of the
missionaries in the present day is to carry out the Good News to all the nations.
The
mission is signified basically as a communication among three cultures: the
home culture of the missionary, the domestic culture of a country to which the
missionary is assigned and then the culture of Palestine during the time of
Jesus. The important task of the missionaries is to observe and understand these
aspects and to broaden their way of thinking, traditional outlook and the lifestyle
in a given cultural and geographical environment. Missionaries should find
themselves situated in the inter-cultural context as it is very important to
manage the social communication in the missionary work. The missionary has to
be faithful always to the Gospel message that he is preaching and to the people
to whom the message is being preached. In this aspect he has to be enriched by
the communication in the socio-cultural context of the mission territory.
The
second Vatican council says that Christ has sent the church to all the nations
to be a sign of salvation for all (Ad Gentes). Therefore Church is not bound to
any specific race, nation, ethnic group, lifestyle or culture. It should be
able to get in contact with every culture and move towards all sections of the
people. Through this the Gospel will continually revive life and the culture of
the people. This is the prime reason for which a missionary is chosen by God.
Missionaries
should give testimony about Jesus as someone who was here not two thousand
years ago but as somebody from us who is here and now, participating in the
culture of the present society. Considering the differences among human
communities we should not forget the similarities and the common values. The
Gospel message is a universal one and so it is assigned to the people of all
cultures and traditions. The task of the missionary is to give this message in
such a way so that it is communicated to all the people belonging to a
particular culture in a particular context. People belonging to various cultures
are naturally open for a communication with the other cultures. So the
socio-cultural communication is an important factor which influences this
dynamism. Through this the Mission of the church enters into the process of
cross-cultural communication in the socio-cultural context. This also includes
a readiness to share with everyone the riches of the Christian faith and to
live a life embracing holistic spirituality.
Therefore
the mission spirituality should be characterized by a universal openness to
passionate concern for everybody and for any human problem. The main endowment
requires a true availability, founded on the sense of faith and upon the
pastoral charity to dedicate oneself to the spiritual well-being of the souls
and to the propagation of the kingdom of Christ.
